Hardware Requirements
Although CheckDialer will work on less powerful systems, for best results we
recommend at least 32 MB RAM, a 166 MHz Pentium or faster processor and a high-color
(thousands or millions of colors) display mode of 800x600 pixels or greater.
Software Requirements
CheckDialer has been tested on the following platforms:
Windows ME
Windows NT 4.0 SP3, SP5, SP6, SP6a*
Windows 2000 Professional/Server Build 2195,SP1,SP2,SP3
Windows XP Home/Professional

been installed. You can download the update here:

What Is a Dialer Trojan?
A dialer Trojan is malware coded to secretly dial phone numbers, leaving the
infected victim with a large phone bill. There are two reasons why someone might
code and spread a dialer Trojan. The first reason is destructive, perhaps as
tool of revenge. The second reason is for financial gain. Simply set up a
premium 900 number and charge $5.99 a minute. Then, all the malicious coder
needs is a few hundred infected victims to make a decent amount of money.
As a desktop analogy, many free porn web sites use browser-based exploits to
infect PC users with dialer Trojans. This is a classic example of dialer Trojans
being used for financial gain. Dialer Trojans have been around on PCs for many
years. Traditional PC dialer Trojans rely on the infected computer having a
working modem, and the modem needs to be connected to a wall socket. It was only
a matter of time before someone realized that coding dialer malware for
computers that mostly rely on broadband was a waste of time. Such malware coders
have now moved to cellular phones.
Types Of Dialers:
Variant 1:
The component downloads the Dialer with the call on the PC and implements it
thereafter. Thus that is not downloaded the file as more normally left, but,
gets the user is program controlled no message over the fact that a file is
downloaded. No certificate is spent. Since the file is downloaded and is not
implemented directly, also no safety inquiry comes whether the file is to be
really implemented. With it all safety options of the IE are gone around. The
consequences:
| |
· |
the Dialer can be started automatically (a choice)
|
| |
· |
each side the Dialer of the same manufacturer begins can their Dialer on
the computer install and start
|
| |
· |
a deletion of the Dialers is useless, since it is again again downloaded
each time by the component
|
| |
· |
the Deinstallation of the Dialers removes the Dialer, but not however
the component and is useless in the reason.
|
Variant 2:
Additionally for execution described above the dialer is registered as
trustworthy manufacturers in the InterNet Explorer (to find over Tools>Internet
options>Security>Custom). This entry has the consequence that no more
certificate is indicated if a Dialer of this manufacturer to be downloaded is -
even if the ActiveX component were deleted in the meantime by the PC. Here
weakness is used by Windows, as this entry is written with the first
installation of the component into the Registry. The Dialer is along-started
automatically now with each system start by Windows or downloaded, if it were
deleted, again. In latter case no telecommunications connection is developed;
the program waits for whether a connection is present InterNet. The task is not
to be recognized over the task manager visible and therefore for most user not.
Variant 3:
The Dialer already is in the ActiveX component with contained dialer. From
according to prepared web pages the Dialer receives then only the number, which
it is to select.
Variant 4:
The most harmless case: The Webdialer is downloaded and installed on the
computer of the user. If the a choice inquiry is rejected, Dialer and/or ActiveX
component on the computer remain, until they are deleted manually.
If you activated ActiveX in InterNet Explorer for dubious dial he offerers, in
addition, other dangers from the net open door and gate. It is advisable
urgently to switch active contents off or prompt also, if then some web pages
are not indicated correctly any longer.
